Isaac Oyewunmi, the current Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University chapter, has opposed the allegation levelled against him by the school management of Lagos State University.

Isaac Oyewunmi, alongside with his deputy, Adebowale Adeyemi was sacked by the Governor Council of LASU due to various accusation of fradulent activities on Friday, 8th of September, 2017.

The Chairman of ASUU was accused of taxing a total sum of N50,000 from 2003 modular year students of Political Science Education, who were imperturbable to upgrade their results while his deputy, Adebowale Adeyemi was accused of unilaterally changing the current status of students who were asked to withdraw from the university, from “withdraw” to “good standing” as this counts as a sinful act.

Reacting to the allegations, Oyewunmi blamed his plight on “political issues”.

Oyewunmi further said that, all the allegations are false. I am not guilty but as at this moment, I have been ordered to step aside while the Union (ASUU) deals with it.

The secretary is in the best position to react, I can’t say much any longer, but we all are aware of what is happening in our varsity, all they are saying is politically motivated.

When the time is right, we would know, we have a vigorous formation in ASUU and the union has asked me not to talk on this issue, so I won’t flay the union’s image.

Anthony Dansu, the Secretary of LASU – ASUU branch mentioned that the decision came as a shock.

“We are very shocked by the actions. It came to us all as a schock, since we were not expecting such, but the union of ASUU is on top of the whole situation. At the suitable time, the union will take an action” he mentioned.
