How to Calculate UNILAG cut-off mark
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has released the departmental cut-off for the 2021/2022 academic sessions. So many students are curious to know how to calculate UNILAG cut-off mark. In today’s article, I will give a detailed guide on calculating the UNILAG cut-off mark.
Calculation of the cut-off mark for UNILAG is quite easy. However, to do this, you will need to know a few procedures on how UNILAG calculates the grades aggregate.
This article will provide you with a guide on how to calculate the cut-off mark. I am going to show you a step-by-step guide on how to calculate UNILAG cut-off mark.
UNILAG’s JAMB cut-off mark
The JAMB cut-off mark for students seeking admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) is 200 and above. This means that candidates who score below 200 in their JAMB are not eligible to get admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
However, a JAMB score of 200 does not guarantee admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG). You will have to meet up to the departmental cut-off mark in your aggregate score before you can get admission. Each department has a different departmental cut-off mark that every student must reach to gain admission.
I am going to show you how to calculate the aggregate score. Firstly, you have to note that the aggregate score is calculated with your JAMB UTME score, Post UTME score, and your O’level score.
The invention of JAMB CAPS makes sure that schools grade their candidates with 50% of the aggregate coming from their JAMB UTME score. On the other hand, 30% is weighed from the candidate’s post-UTME score. Also, the O’level score attributes to 20% of the candidate’s aggregate score. Below is how to calculate the aggregate score.
How to calculate your JAMB score
As I said earlier, JAMB contributes to 50% of a candidate’s aggregate. To calculate this, find 50% of JAMB’s total score (400);
50% of 400
= 50/100 x 400 =8
This means that you are going to divide your JAMB score by 8.
Post UTME score
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Post UTME score is over 30. The candidate’s score in post UTME is added to their aggregate. This contributes to 30% percent of the candidate’s aggregate.
How to calculate O’level grades
The O’level grade is 20% of the aggregate score. To calculate the O’level result over 20, you will need to use the grade points below:
A1 4.0
B2 3.6
B3 3.2
C4 2.8
C5 2.4
C6 2.0
Add the above points according to your grade in each subject you wrote. The sum of your points in every subject is your total score over 20. This will also be added to your aggregate score.
I am going to give you an illustration to illustrate this better. For Example, Tunde score 220 in his JAMB and 22/30 in post UTME. If his O’ level result was this: English language (A1 = 4.0), Mathematics (A1 = 4.0) Physics (B2 = 3.6), Chemistry (B3 = 3.2), Biology (C4 = 2.8), Geography (C4 = 2.8), and Agricultural Science (C4 = 2.8).
Tunde’s aggregate score will be:
JAMB UTME score will be 220/8 = 27.5
Post UTME score will be 22
While his O’level result will be 4 + 4 + 3.6 + 3.2 + 2.8 +2.8 + 2.8 = 23.2
If you add up the score from the above three scores, then you get: 27.5 + 22 + 23.2 = 72.2
So this means that Tunde’s aggregate score is 72.2.
