How to choose the appropriate university

So that students can save time and have more opportunities to enter the appropriate university, they should make a list that includes seven universities that interest them the most.
This list should be prepared by examining the admission requirements, the location, the number of students, the cost and the curriculum that each university has in the specific area that the student wishes to study and in which he intends to obtain his degree.
If possible, you should also schedule a visit to the campus and, finally, find out what school materials are prerequisite for admission to these universities.

University admission exams

Students must prepare for these exams by taking advantage of the practice exams and making use of the information available at the high schools.
Dexterity in taking tests is a quality that can be useful not only to enter the university but throughout the university career. Today, most colleges require students to take the SAT or ACT test. It is recommended that students take these tests at least twice, but not more than three times.

Students in junior year (juniors) must take the tests for the first time in the month of March or May.
Seniors should take them in October, November or December. However, it is advisable to take the tests as soon as possible to be admitted at once. Some public universities have open dates for submitting applications and accept the results of the test, after the deadline.

The application process

Students must request, complete, carefully review and submit their application for admission as soon as possible. Some of the most common mistakes made during this application process are: not presenting all the required materials, not completing all the questions on the application or forgetting to sign the application.

Essential elements required by most universities include the biographical information sheet, the official transcript of grades from the school, the writing of an essay and two or three letters of recommendation.

Before submitting admission forms, ask an English teacher, counselor, or mentor to review and correct them. For each application for admission to a university, a fee must be paid. However, the university or community college to which you apply for income may omit such payment if it represents an economic problem for the student’s family.

Deadlines

Keep in mind the application deadline for each university. The deadline period for submitting your application to the universities is between the end of November and the months of January and February of the following year. Each student must confirm these deadlines with the Admissions Office of each university. It does not matter what the final date is, but to be sure that you submit the application as early as possible. Most universities recommend that applications be sent in December.

Federal student aid

To seek financial aid, the first thing students must do is fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, beginning October 1 of each year.
With this application, the university, college or institute determines what types of aid students are entitled to, from the same institution or from the federal government.

Scholarships

The key to securing scholarships is to start early, search carefully, and review the requirements, criteria, and deadlines very carefully. Some Internet sites provide free scholarship searches or links to other sites dedicated to scholarships.
In addition to the use of the Internet, students can work with the guidance offices of secondary schools, as well as with universities, as these institutions keep lists of available scholarship opportunities.
To avoid fraud and cheating related to scholarships, never offer a credit card number to “hold” a scholarship, and avoid those companies that offer “exclusive information” in exchange for a payment.
