Things To Consider When Choosing A University
Below are some of the things you should look out for when choosing the right university.
1. Make Sure The University Is Accredited:
Making sure your choice of Institution – University is accredited; this is vital.
A lot of schools, colleges, polytechnics, and universities has not been accredited yet by NUC.
Making sure you gather enough information about your chosen university is necessary and they must have been accredited by the NUC board.
Else, it will just look as if you are just wasting your time and resources.
2. Catchment Area The catchment school:
The catchment area favoro very important and being part of a university catchment can favour you during admission processes.
For example, UNILAG catchment areas are Lagos, Osun Oyo, Ekiti, and Ogun. The cut-off mark for this catchment areas is always lesser than the merit cut-off mark. This doesn’t mean that you cannot apply for admission into a university if you are not from the catchment areas.
Catchment areas only give the candidates of those states upper hands during admission.
3. Strike History Of The School/University:
There can be no doubt that 90% of all the federal universities in Nigeria strike most times and we all know that.
If you are the type that is much more older than your colleagues I.e age isn’t at your side. I suggest you apply to a Federal Or State University that does not strike every semester. Universities like UNILORIN and UNILAG are best fit in this category as they hardly strike. So its imperative you consider them.
On your own part, doing a research of finding out institutions that strike and don’t strike often. Doing that will help you choose a better and safer univeristy.
4. The Admission Requirements Of the School:
Meeting up with the admission cut-off mark and attaining your choice of institution admission requirement is imperative.
So before applying for one, be encouraged to meet up to those requirements in order to gain admission fast.
Last year 2017, most institution; universities to be precise Cut-off mark was 200 and some others below 180. I recommend you look back at how the admission process was carried out last year to avoid any form of problem.
5. Be aware of how to calculate the screening point of the University:
Most State Universities and Polytechnics uses screening point to shortlist candidates into their school.
Moreover, some institutions like UNILAG, OAU, and FUNAAB conduct POST UTME examination to admit candidates into their school while some Institutions like Lagos State University (LASU) doesn’t which I seemed isn’t fair.
Conclusively, after reading this article together, I hope you now have a clear and not a blunt understanding about choosing a good Univeristy. Not a University that will go on strike like, LAUTECH.
